Poverty and human deprivation have been recognized as the most central challenge to the development of human society ever since the dawn of history. Poverty consists not only of a simple economic fact, but it also describes a state of deprivation.' All over the world, disparities between the rich and the poor continue to rise sharply. While some are getting richer, many are getting poorer. Ironically, all this is happening in a world that God has blessed with abundance, a world rich enough to allow every person a descent and comfortable life.”
