The notions of determinism and freewill remain till date a metaphysical problem in philosophy. The concept of freewill derives from the idea that man possesses the ability to make choices and decisions without any influence. As a result, he is morally responsible for any outcome of his action(s). On the contrary, is the thesis of determinism which considers freewill illusive, for man’s actions are controlled by certain causal laws which also influence the entire universe. Baron D’ Holbach argues that the idea of freewill is due to ignorance of what really transpires in man’s soul when the need of choice making arises. This project having critically examined the two contending positions agreed that some events/ actions are determined and some are not, leading us to the thesis of soft determinism.
