In the ages past, African parents were known to inculcate and uphold ethical values grounded in homogeneity in their children's upbringing. Ethical values used to be well inculcated in African children from childhoodto adulthood. Children grow to live by the cultural practices and disciplines instilled in them through folklores, fables, oral traditions and moonlight stories. In the recent time, things have fallen apart.The cultural, moral and ethical values inAfrica children are fast degenerating. Thispaper discusses various causes of deterioration of ethical values in parenting. It argues furthers that such deteriorations are caused by neglect of parental duties, imposition of Western orientations on African cultural values. Furthermore, the paper showcases the negative effects of deterioration of ethical values on moral behaviour of children which has produced more social miscreants than children of good characters in contemporary Nigeria. Finally, the paper recommends on the one hand, the revitalization of ethical values among parents and children by incorporating right ethical values in parenting and on the other hand, it cautions parents to pay more attention to the adequate training, mentoring, nurturing and moral development of their children based traditional on African values instead of committing the upbringing of their children to third party.
