MAX TEGMARK ET AL ON RESPONSIBLE ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE CULTURE

STEPHEN A. OGUJI
Abstract

This paper is on Max Tegmark's ideas on responsible artificial intelligence culture. Responsible artificial intelligence culture as understood and discussed here, according to Tegmark is the development and use of artificial intelligence for the good of man, prioritizing safety, ethics, and human values. The work started with what artificial intelligence is and problematizes clearly its dual potentials to enhance human welfare as it addresses several human, social and economic challenges and at the same time the significant risks it presents to man hence the need for responsibility in its use. After justifying the necessity of a study like this, the work then dwells on Tegmark's reflections on the importance of designing, developing, and deploying artificial intelligence systems in ways that align with human values both on short term and long term basis. This was followed by similar voices on the urgency of responsible artificial intelligence. The objective of the paper is to make a case for responsible development and use of artificial intelligence that balances the gains with the risks. Ultimately, the paper, using the methods of exposition and analysis calls for a collective effort among researchers, policymakers, and industry leaders to ensure that artificial intelligence technologies are developed and deployed in ways that align with humanity's shared values and long-term well-being. ;
