HUMAN FREEDOM: ITS ONTOLOGICAL BASIS

N. EZEANYINO
Abstract

The idea of freedom is nothing extraneous to man but rather a part of his essence as man. This article traces the basis of human freedom to man’s intellect and will, which, according to the Old Thomistic Tradition are faculties of the soul. The question of human freedom is an age long one that has triggered various drives in several realms of studies today, ranging from philosophy, anthropology, to even theology. This article does not pretend to offer the final solution to the controversy but it is supposedly meant to attempt and provoke thoughts for further reflection.
