HERMENEUTICAL PHENOMENOLOGICAL STUDY OF THE ALADURA SPIRITUALITY IN IJESA SOCIAL HISTORY

Dr. D. Olayiwola
Abstract

This paper deals primarily with the social aspect of missiology in Nigeria. The social aspect of Christian mission in Nigeria becomes vital because this is one way the church’s presence in any society can be established. From the various studies, it shows that the Aladura brand of spirituality has successfully integrated the traditional religious proclivities of the people into Christianity so much so that what is described as 'Aladura Christianity' is 'unparalleled' in Ijesaland. However, the paper concludes that the practice of sexual misdemeanor, witchcraft, and lack of adequate theological training that continues to plaque the spirituality of the Aladura church must be expunged for its better appreciation.
