This paper gives a vivid exposition of the transition from the pre-Vatican II notion of the parish to a post-synodal understanding of the same. While in the earlier times the notion of community held a place of primacy, which would eventually be replaced with a primacy of the priesthood independent of the community. The Second Vatican Council noted that this development is an aberration that has taken on the toga of originality in the minds of people and thus, the paper seeks to redirect back to the church’s roots.
