The age-long legal maxim, “ignorance of law is not an excuse” is a widely known presumption of law. This paper succinctly elucidates societal backdrops against which it has, from time to time, been contextualized. More so, it contends that this principle cannot hold sway in all justice related circumstances and advocates further that “allowable reasonable ignorance of the law should be premised on sufficient excuse”.
