Mostly, man has a negative attitude towards life and nature. This is evident in his misuse of freedom and of created things. The central problem here is man’s consumerist attitude, which is a sinful tendency. However, this sinful tendency could be overcome through asceticism and fasting. If one practices asceticism and fasting according to the law of the gospel, one will have the mind of God and the right understanding about God’s creation and about man as part of that creation. The right understanding will then lead to a positive attitude towards life and nature.
