The contributions of Thomas Aquinas in metaphysical discussions became pivotal in the history of philosophy as a result of the discovery of the Act of Being on his metaphysical pathways abandoned by his predecessors, sprouting from his insights on both human and divine realities. Before this discovery nevertheless, he had been jettisoned by many critics, some of which presupposed that his contributions were merely footnotes of his predecessorAristotle, therefore presenting nothing new. However, it took a remarkable turn during the Thomistic revival with a realization that Aquinas’s contributions on metaphysics was not only new but pivotal towards a new realization. This paper is aimed at pointing out how Thomas Aquinas doctrine of the act of being both brings a radically new solution to metaphysics and responds to the problem of essence and existence, and presenting how Aquinas’ insights provides a theoretical foundation on contemporary philosophical discuss of which today’s personalist philosophy must make recourse to.
