The proliferation of churches in the world is becoming worrisome and to this effect, the Catholic Church through Christ mandate for Unity in the scriptures has made conscious effort to advocate for unity amongst the different Christian denominations. The quest for Christian unity may seem to be a herculean task in the Nigerian context due to the influence of Protestantism in the form of Pentecostalism manifesting itself in some facets within Catholicism. This paper intends to address these issues and also bring to the realization of theologians the ardent need to return to the dialectical, doctrinal and systematic functions of theology so as to conveniently address the issue of Christian unity, through effective and functional communication which serves as an avenue for common cognitive agreements. ;
