Abstract

In an era marked by rapid technological advancement, ecological crises, and widening social inequalities, traditional development modelsprimarily driven by economic metricshave proven inadequate for addressing the complex and multifaceted challenges of contemporary society. This study explores the imperative of integrating socio-humanistic and scientific values into a unified, interdisciplinary framework for value-centered development. Drawing on insights from sociology, ethics, psychology, sustainability science, and engineering, it highlights how human dignity, empathy, justice, and equity must intersect with empirical reasoning and technological innovation to foster inclusive and sustainable progress. Conceptual frameworks such as Service-Dominant Logic (S-D Logic) and Value-Based Engineering (VBE) are examined as models for operationalizing ethical principles within socio-technical systems. Through global and Nigerian case studies in education, urban planning, and public policy, the research underscores the transformative potential of interdisciplinary approaches. It also critically engages with the epistemological tensions, risks of moral relativism, and institutional barriers that impede integration across disciplines. The study concludes by advocating for a renewed commitment to epistemic pluralism and collaborative governance, asserting that a just and virtuous society depends on the deliberate synthesis of socio-humanistic ideals and scientific rationality.
