THE REDEEMED FAMILY OF GOD: A REVIEW AND NOTES ON THE DOCUMENT OF THE INTERNATIONAL THEOLOGICAL COMMISSION, SELECT QUESTIONS ON THE THEOLOGY OF GOD THE REDEEMER

Stanislaus Chimezie Ukoha Umeh
Abstract

Select questions on the theology of God the redeemer1 is a document of the International Theological Commission (ITC). This Commission is said to have been born from a recommendation made by the Synod of Bishops that met in 1967. In the beginning, it consisted of thirty theologians, selected on the basis of advice from episcopal conferences in different parts of the world. This was to ensure that in their considerations, they would bring in diverse languages, cultural specificities, varying approaches to theological methods, a collaboration between the universal primate and the world episcopate, and an exchange between pastors and teachers. The aim for such a Commission was that there be a rapprochement of scholarly reflection and pastoral responsibility, especially in a period when intellectual problems were becoming ever more complex, and scholarship was leaving its footprint (whether at a sophisticated or a simple level) on the lives of the people in the modern society.
