APPLICATION OF ARTFIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE IN TEACHING AND LEARNING AT THE HUGH GOLDIE THEOLOGICAL INSTITUTION AROCHUKWU, ABIA STATE

Abstract

The advent of artificial intelligence (AI) has revolutionized the educational landscape, offering unparalleled opportunities for enhanced academic experiences in higher institutions in Nigeria. This study investigated the use of artificial intelligence (AI) in teaching and learning at Hugh Goldie Theological Institution Arochukwu, Abia State. Objectives of the study included to: evaluate the level of AI adoption in teaching and learning at Hugh Goldie Theological Institution Arochukwu, examine the benefits of integrating AI in teaching and learning at Hugh Goldie Theological Institution. The study was anchored on technological determinism theory. Survey research method was adopted with questionnaire as instrument for data collection. The total populations of 226 respondents were used for the study. Census sampling technique was employed for the distribution of the questionnaire. The collected data were analysed using tables and simple percentage. The hypotheses were tested using Chi square.The findings revealed thatthe level of AI adoption in teaching and learning at Hugh Goldie Theological Institution Arochukwu is low.The study also found that the benefits of integrating AI in teaching and learning at Hugh Goldie Theological Institution are enormous which included personalized learning experience for students, enhanced teacher’s productivity, improve students engagement, access to high quality educational resources for research and teaching, and data driven insights for continuous improvement and personal development. It further revealedthat AI tools used in teaching and learning at Hugh Goldie Theological Institution Arochukwu are: Adaptive Learning Platforms, Virtual Reality, Chatbots and Virtual Assistants, Intelligent Tutoring Systems, Natural Language Processing, Data Analytics and Learning. The researchers among other things recommended that Hugh Goldie institution should invest on the acquisition of sophisticated technological gadgets and software that will support the integration of AI tools in teaching and learning at Hugh Goldie Theological Institution Arochukwu
