Consecrated Life and Society: A Prophetic and Life-giving Dialogue with the World

.
Abstract

A Church which is silent in the face of a world in suffering betrays the spirit of its own creed. For centuries, if not millennia, the Church has keenly been aware that its mission is tied to the social and political life of the world. This awareness has evolved from the perception of the Papacy as a Theocratic Institution with political influence to a prophetic Church with a moral voice. The general theme of this maiden issue of our journal, Consecrated Life, Politics and Society compels us to look at how the Church and consequently, Consecrated Life has been in dialogue with the society. This theme was chosen for this maiden issue because the basic orientation of Consecrated life (CL henceforth) is missiological. Every Institute of CL, including the contemplatives, has a mission to transform our world into a place that qualifies as God’s Kingdom where the values of Christian life hold sway.
