Journal of African Studies and Sustainable Development

In this era popularly known as the 21st century, many issues have emerged to dislodge almost everything about human existence. The massive technological and scientific innovations have taken over virtually everything including the church. In fact, there seems to be no thin line between the sacred and the profane. This development is making some people who hitherto had unshaken faith and moral focus to start reconsidering their convictions. This paper attempts critical expositions of some issues affecting the church in this twenty first century Nigeria as well as the place of effective leadership thereto. This is because in a religiously dominated setting especially in a Christian dominated society, the success, strength and effectiveness or otherwise of the church affect the society. It examines the extent to which the 21st century technologically and scientifically evolved age is affecting the general work and effective leadership of the church. The study argues that an effective leadership is the only reliable sustainability of the church in her mission in this era of notable changes.
