This study examined the role of religion and human relationships in promoting environmental education in Nigeria. Given the country's ongoing environmental challenges and the shortcomings of formal environmental education, religious teachings and community structures present a viable alternative for fostering ecological awareness and sustainability. Analyzing case studies from Ghana and India illustrates how integrating environmental messages into religious doctrines and social structures can drive meaningful behavioural changes. In Nigeria, where religious institutions and traditional leaders wield significant influence, embedding environmental stewardship within faith-based teachings and communal values can help address gaps in environmental consciousness. The findings suggest that aligning environmental responsibility with moral and spiritual obligations enhances awareness, encourages sustainable practices, and fosters long-term ecological protection.
