COWORKERS NOT CONTENDERS: AN EXPOSITION OF RELATIONSHIP LESSONS BETWEEN PAUL, APOLOS AND PETER (1 CORINTHIANS 3:1-10) FOR 21ST CENTURY CHURCH LEADERS.

Ernest Anekpere Umegbolu
Abstract

Modern ministries are increasingly compromised by leadership competition, factionalism, and market-driven rivalry. While historical scholarship documents early church dynamics, a critical research gap remains in connecting ancient apostolic models to contemporary disputes. This study addresses the central question: how can the collaborative relationships of Paul, Apollos, and Peter in 1 Corinthians 3:1-10 resolve modern ministerial conflicts? Utilizing qualitative hermeneutics and a purposive sampling method to analyze primary biblical texts, this article applies the theoretical lens of the Paradigm of Non-Competitive Ecclesial Synergy. This study offers significant, actionable contributions to academic literature and practical ecclesiology. The study recommends that twenty-first-century churches transition from personality-driven platforms to structural collaboration by establishing independent external oversight boards and redefining performance metrics. Ultimately, this study concludes that abandoning carnal rivalry for shared, non-rivalrous partnership is vital to securing the maturity and cooperative growth of the global church body.
