Music is a global phenomenon that cuts across every culture and levels of appreciation. Nigeria, as a nation, is rich in music and culture from its numerous ethnic backgrounds, which can transform it. Recently, the traditional musical skill of Nigerian citizens was enriched by the introduction of Western culture and musical expertise. Musicologists and performers combined both traditional African and Western musical skills to boost the economy. The Nigerian economic situation has deteriorated to the point that securing a job is extremely difficult for the youth. It is obvious that without personal effort, the hope of survival could be dashed. Using the ethnographic research method, this paper examines the possible opportunities that adequate musical skill acquisition provides from both African and Western backgrounds. It recommends that Nigerian youths should value music and its functions, and acquire the necessary skills, either for the performance or production of instruments for utility and commercial purposes
