Abstract

African Philosophy of Education is a minor branch of philosophy as well as an applied philosophy to education. However, in its expertise attempt at defining the limits and necessary boundaries of teaching and learning, African Philosophy of Education critically examines the underlying principles in the continued process of leading one out of ignorance (educere) and the consequent act of cultivating or leading one into knowledge (educare). As a discipline, African philosophy of education, aptly conscious of the Africanity as well as the philosophicality with regard to its subject matter, gives credence to suitable education within African contextualized worldview. Using method of critical analysis the researchers find out that we need to reconstruct a context-relevant philosophy of education from within our worldview. Such a philosophical foundation of Education will give great attention to Nigerian Educational System.
