Abstract

For so many years down memory lane, African women have found themselves in a serious marginalization predicament due to the patriarchal nature of African societies and at present the marginalization of the women folk in Nigeria is still evident in some areas such as politics. The study adopted the qualitative research method to analyze the case studies via content analysis, while it made use of the theory of womanism to interrogate how women are marginalized by highlighting the possible consequences of such actions. The research concluded that women folk can achieve more and can offer more than being political cheerleaders thus, it makes a clarion call for women to wake up and take a stance of not being relegated to the background but to stand up for themselves without fear or prejudice.
