This paper argues artificial intelligence (AI) is diminishing human dignity as fast as flourishing human dignity. The dual pace is invisible to many people for reasons of either overestimation or underestimation of AI’s capabilities. It contests excessive optimism of AI inventors and users which blindsides them to proliferation of self-deceptions in Sartrean parlance, social vices, and sophisticated political destructions. These realities impact human dignity. Attention is thus drawn to fact uncontrolled excitement about AI’s prospects tends to blind eyes on contemporary problems it poses to human dignity. Furthermore, conscious of how so unrealistic AI with no flaws is, this paper proposes imbalance of AI’s progressive and retrogressive paces, ensuring progression is faster and merits are more whereas retrogression is slower and demerits are minimal. This is crucial to AI’s sustainability. Hence, examining artificial intelligence through ontological, ethical and political lenses drives focus to how much or less it impinges wholesomely on our being. Undertaking this enquiry with phenomenological and analytical methodologies is instrumental. Consequently, distinctness of this research is ontological, socio-ethical, and political implications on human dignity explored to attract more caution in approaching invention and utilization of AI. The paper concludes coexistence of AI with human dignity is feasible in so far as potential threats are prevented rather than confronted.
