Education in the Era of Globalization and Artificial Intelligence

Eze, James Odigomma Mercy U. Chukwuedo, PhD
Abstract

The rapid convergence of globalization and artificial intelligence (AI) is transforming education systems worldwide, presenting both opportunities and challenges. This study examines the dual impact of globalization and AI on education, focusing on how these forces reshape pedagogical approaches, equity, and policy frameworks. The central problem lies in the paradoxical nature of these advancements: while AI offers personalized learning and globalization fosters cross-border collaboration, they also exacerbate digital divides, cultural homogenization, and ethical dilemmas in education. This research aims to analyze these dynamics, evaluate their implications for educational equity, and propose strategies for sustainable integration. A mixed-methodology approach was employed, combining historical analysis of global education trends with survey data from educators and policymakers in Nigeria and other emerging economies. The historical review traced the evolution of AI and globalization in education, while the survey captured contemporary perceptions and institutional readiness. Findings reveal that AI enhances accessibility and administrative efficiency but risks deepening inequalities without inclusive policies. Globalization facilitates knowledge exchange yet often marginalizes localized curricula. The study concludes that a balanced approach is essential to harness the benefits of AI and globalization while mitigating their downsides. Recommendations include strengthening international policy frameworks to ensure equitable AI adoption, investing in digital infrastructure for underserved regions, and promoting culturally responsive pedagogies. This research contributes to the discourse on future-ready education systems, advocating for human-centric innovation in an increasingly interconnected world.
