Abstract

This study examined Farmers-Herders’ Conflict and Internal Security in Ebonyi State, south eastern Nigeria between 2020 and 2024. The study objectives focused on the contributions of the farmers-herders conflict on internal security problems and the role of security agencies in curbing the conflict in Ebonyi State. Data for the study were gathered through secondary sources which include, textbooks, journal publications, government official document, newspaper, magazine and the internet. The study adopted Conflict theory as a theoretical framework of analysis. The finding of this study revealed that the slow response of the federal government towards addressing the farmers-herders’ conflict in different parts of the country and the inability of same federal government to ban open grazing in the country was the major enabler of the conflict between farmers and herders in Ebonyi State and other parts of the country. The study therefore, recommends that the federal government of Nigeria should ban the open grazing system currently in use by herders and make provision for modern ranches and at the same time decentralize the Nigerian Police structure for quick response to distress calls in remote areas of Nigeria
