Abstract

The ABO blood group classifies human blood into different types crucial during Blood transfusion which is a life-saving medical intervention. However, due to the inherent danger presented by persons giving blood especially within the window period. The need to study whether the blood group of individual influences prevalence is therefore very imperative. The objective of this study is to determine whether blood group influences on HIV infection among blood donors This is a cross-sectional study among 329 healthy intending blood donors in public (209) and Private (120) Orthopedic Hospitals in Anambra State. The collected data were analyzed using SPSS Version 25. 95% confidence interval was the level of significance (p< 0.05). Findings mase showed that Blood group B has the highest prevalence rate at 2(8.3%). Chi square value is ( ? 2 =2.173, df = 1, p-value = 0.903). Since the P-value was greater than 0.05 level of significance (P>0.05). This implies that the different blood groups of the intending blood donors do not differ in their HIV status. The study therefore concludes that the prevalence of HIV infection in this study was highest in Blood group B participants. However, there was no significant difference in the prevalence rate between all the Blood groups
