Ifeanyi Okeke
Abstract

All over the world and particularly with the advancement of research, researchers explorers and the like, scholars have engaged in the study of people, culture and places. Today, people can easily read about people, and places they have not been to nor visited. Such people or places are brought to the knowledge of others simply through researches and works carried out and made available to the reading public or academic community. This is simply what this research work is all about. The work is an attempt to bring to the fore, the land called Uboma, its dialect and what remains of the community after the activities of the missionary religions, colonialism, modernism and dynamism which are the hallmark of every society. Documentary, oral interview and observation were used as data collection methods while descriptive and historical methodological approaches were used in the analysis of the data. At the end it is manifest that Uboma and its people have had their fair share of the effects of the encounter with the agents of change. While some of her traditional institutions and practices have witnessed social and religious changes, some aspects of the people's lives still remain intact.
