Francophonie represents a key instrument of France’s foreign policy in West Africa, a legacy of a colonial history that has shaped Franco-African relations. Since the independence of African nations, France has utilized Francophonie as a tool of cultural, diplomatic, and economic influence, reinforcing its presence in the region. However, this strategy raises questions, particularly in light of the rise of sovereignist sentiments and the growing influence of new international actors. The central issue of this study lies in analyzing Francophonie as an instrument of France’s geopolitical strategy in West Africa. As global dynamics evolve, France adapts its approach to safeguard its interests, notably through linguistic cooperation, development aid, and political alliances. The main objectives of this research are to examine the mechanisms through which France uses Francophonie to maintain its influence, assess the reactions of African states, and analyse future prospects. The methodology is based on a qualitative approach combining documentary analysis and the study of political discourse.
