A CRITICAL TREATISE ON HANS KELSEN'S PURE THEORY OF LAW

M. M. Uzomah, PhD
Abstract

The central thrust of this chapter has been an expository and evaluative reflection on Kelsen's Pure Theory of Law. It established the governing propensity of his legal thinking was the desire to respond to certain fundamental questions regarding the concept, nature and validity of law. His main aim was to postulate a notion of law and legal system that is clean and unadulterated by extra-legal factors like morals, metaphysical speculations, values and other external factors that he believed encumber a good understanding of law. He made incisive contributions to the understanding of the nature and validity of law and this has earned him global scholarship and accolades.
