PHILOSOPHY AND SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT IN NIGERIA

This paper discussed Philosophy and sustainable development in Nigeria. It x-rayed the needs of Nigeria in reference to sustainable development and investigated what, and how philosophy contributes to meeting these needs in the present while ensuring that the capacity and ability of the nation to meet the future needs of Nigerians is not compromised. It adopted the method of qualitative research; relying on the analysis of available library materials to: (i) critically explicate the notion of sustainable development, (ii) critically analyse the Nigerian situation within the framework of our understanding of sustainable development, (iii) investigate the possible contribution of philosophy to the project of sustainable development in Nigeria. The aim of this paper is to elucidate how philosophy contributes to human development and its sustainability in any nation, with particular reference to Nigeria.
