CHRISTIANITY'S CULTURAL CLASSISM AND THE PROBLEM OF PERMEATION OF FAITH AMONG ST 21 CENTURY AFRICAN CHRISTIANS

Aleke Matthew
Abstract

This paper aims at challenging the 21 century African Christianity to be more responsive in her actions by creatively confronting from within the African culture the fissures existing between the culture and Gospel which is the drama of our time. Adopting an analytic method, this paper sets up that the cultural classicists mentality that characterizes Christianity gives very little or no space for faith-culture integration which by extension hinders the permeation of Christian faith among the st 21 century African. This paper therefore, calls on Christianity in Africa to adopt dialectics of faith-culture integration in her modus operandi in order to make Christ accessible and understandable to Africa's cultural frame of mind and sensibility or run the risk of losing much of its force and effectiveness in no distant future.
