Abstract

This article, in honour of Msgr. Prof. Cletus Gotan, focuses on the significance of the theological presentation of hope and the cross in two of Moltmann's books: The Theology of Hope and The Crucified God. The combination of the principal theses of these two books and the contextualization of their significance for the Church and Christians in Nigeria is what this article intends to do. This is an intent to contribute to the existing discussions on the Church's role and the participation of Christians in the political decisions of Nigeria, especially with the 2023 General Elections drawing close and the high stakes as to what direction in the future of Nigeria will be charted. It calls for the sincerest and active participation of all members of the Church in deciding the right course of history we should take as Nigerians.
