CYBERTHEOLOGY IN THE AGE OF DIGITAL REVOLUTION AND ITS IMPACT ON CHRISTIANITY

Timothy Barga PhD
Abstract

In the twenty-first century society, there are so many ways to connect and engage with one another that it is seemingly impossible to remain disconnected or unreachable. The digital age with its prolific use of the internet and associated applications has affected every facet of human life. With half of the world’s population having access to the internet, this technology is not only having an impact on the way people work and spend their leisure time but is also changing the way they maintain their religious and spiritual life. This paper proposes that the digital culture calls for not only sociological but also theological reflections that may lead to a new brand of theology called cybertheology. It also proposes that if there were such a thing as cyberthology, it would represent a form of contextual theology that attests to the special social milieu of the digital age. This paper discusses what is involved in the cybertheology, its procedures, challenges and the way forward. The method employed in this analytical research is qualitative in nature.
