ELECTION: THE ROLE OF PHILOSOPHY IN THE CHOICE OF GOOD LEADERSHIP

This paper examined Philosophy; its value and indispensable role in governance; the problem of governance in Nigeria; and the necessity of “Philosopher Voters” electing 'Philosopher Leaders' (to borrow what Plato calls “Philosopher King”)as a solution to our governance problems as a nation. This study also finds that based on the essential rudiments of Philosophy, Philosopher Leaders stand to perform better in policy formulation, implementation and governance of Nigeria. This paper therefore concluded that further disregard and absence of philosophical values in the governance of Nigeria will continue to promote the existing culture of inadequacy plaguing our country's sustainable development.
