STATE RESPONSE TO ARMED BANDITRY IN NIGERIA, 2011-2021

Abstract

The phonomenon of armed banditory has engulfed the entire Nigeria landscape, especially, northern Nigeria, manifesting in kidnapping, armed robbery, raid on villages or settlements and indiscrimate killings, sexual and gender-based violence, cattle rustling, among others. This conflict has escalated and intensified over the past decade (2011-2011), threatening human security and slate survuval in Nigeria. While the menae of Boko Haram insurgency and farmer-herder conflict perpetuated by herders' armed militia have engulfed and escalated in the most of northern Nigeria since 2009, Nigeria has increasingly faced devastating attacks from armed bandits, [articularly in the northwestern states of Zamfara, Kastina, Kaduna, Sokoto and Niger in the North Central.
