The study aims at curtailing church division in christendom set in motion by the 16th century Lutheran Reformation. From the perspective of ecumenism, it sees the reformation as a development that defoemed the church through its introdcution of secession in the church. The methodology is an analysis of existing information from Christmas literature. Poor response to the renewal that Luther wanted to introduce into the church and his later objection to catholic teching on salvation, indulgence, church authority, the Eucharist and so on constitutes the overview of the reformation in the paper.
