AN EVALUATION OF THE URBAN ECONOMY AND ADMINISTRATION OF KADUNA

Abstract

This paper examines the colonial administration of Kaduna urban area being from 1913-1960, with a focus on the development Kaduna. Kaduna being a colonial creation was under Zaria Province prior to British incursion. Kaduna had a politically organized system of administration under the direct authority of the Emir, the British after establishing their rule, transformed this system of administration from a pre-colonial to colonial administration. Within the colonial administration of inherited pre-colonial situation, became dominantly a direct administration at the capital territory that attracts all the provinces of northern Nigeria. The methodology used two principal sources broadly categorized into primary and secondary sources and adopted a qualitative approach.
