Abstract

Conflicts are bound to happen in a community. This is because human beings in the course of their interactions usually have interests which they protect. When the interests of various people are in common, the relationship is sure to go smoothly without hitches. However, when there are conflicting interests, this causes a break in the relationship and may lead to the formation of cliques and alliances. Against this background the research aims at discussing causes, effects and solutions to conflicts in Africa. It examines different approaches to conflict management and the situations they are most appropriate for. It discusses the methods of performing conflict resolution in the traditional African society. Africa, a continent endowed with immense natural and human resources as well as great cultural, ecological and economic diversity, remains underdeveloped. Most African nations suffer from military dictatorship, corruption, civil unrest and war, underdevelopment and deep poverty. Should this continue? It uses qualitative research method to collect data. The findings reveal that, conflicts have been a major factor for underdevelopment in Africa nations. This study establishes the significance of conflict resolution as a panacea to underdevelopment in Africa The researcher recommends humanities as a medium of sensitization for Africa Development.
