PROFESSOR OBIEFUNA AND CHARISMATIC LEADERSHIP: A BIOGRAPHICAL APPROACH TO THE FORMATIVE ELEMENTS

Abstract Leadership is an indispensable component of every human society. Indeed, leadership is the one ingredient that makes or mars a society. As families, communities and nations face daunting challenges that call for and, at the same time, signal leadership failures, it becomes imperative to focus on how to groom leaders by studying the formative elements that coalesced to produce acclaimed leaders. Prof. B.A.C. Obiefuna is a case in point in this study, as we shall, through a biographical approach, explore the foundational cum formative experiences that shaped Obiefuna’s charismatic personality. This study is both expository and analytic. It aims to highlight some of the Igbo cultural values that moulded and shaped the figure of our study - Prof. B.A.C. Obiefuna. It is our position that those salient culture-based principles and values and formative environment, should be highlighted and presented for re-appropriation and recreation for the grooming of new generation leaders. This is important because of the indispensability of effective leadership in the society.
