Abstract

Through an analytic method, this research delves into a philosophical inquiry concerning the prevalent issue of the inordinate quest for wealth among Nigerian youths, with a nuanced exploration of its cultural, societal, and religious dimensions. The pressing problem emerges from the observation of Nigerian youths increasingly prioritizing material accumulation, often at the expense of spiritual and ethical considerations, leading to societal discord and moral disintegration. Findings reveal intricate interactions between cultural norms, societal pressures, and religious teachings, shaping youths' perceptions and behaviours towards wealth attainment. Societal structures and economic disparities exacerbate this pursuit, fueling a cycle of materialistic aspirations detached from deeper existential values. Religious frameworks, while advocating for moderation and ethical conduct, are often overshadowed by materialistic interpretations and societal pressures. Recommendations underscore the need for holistic educational approaches integrating philosophical and ethical teachings, empowering youths to critically evaluate societal values and cultivate a balanced perspective on wealth. Additionally, fostering interfaith dialogue and collaboration could leverage religious teachings to promote values of social justice, compassion, and ethical stewardship. By shedding light on the philosophical underpinnings and ethical challenges of the inordinate quest for wealth, this research aims to inspire meaningful interventions that nurture youths' spiritual and ethical development, fostering a more harmonious and morally grounded society.
